Muslims Population in India
The Muslim Population in India is somewhere between 15-20 crores (150-120 million). Muslims inhabit each and every village of this vast country. With 500,000 mosques and hundreds of thousands of madarsas, India is the most diverse Muslim country in the world. Despite not being in majority, Muslims in India dominate in may parts.
In Jammu and Kashmir state, Muslim are 80 percent of the States population, in Laccadives they form 95 per cent of the population. There are hundreds of cities and thousands of towns where Muslims are in majority. In Jammu and Kashmir, Rohilkhand (UP) , districts of Assam, areas of West Bengal, Bihar, parts of Kerala and South India they are majority.
In cities, the interesting thing is that all over India in each and every city Muslims generally constitute majority pockets in old areas (walled city areas).
Muslims constitutes 25 % population of West Bengal, 33 per cent of Assam, 24 per cent of Kerala, 20 per cent of Uttar Pradesh, 16 Per cent of Bihar, 14 percent of Karnataka, 12 per cent of Gujarat, Rajasthan and A.P. and 11 per cent of Delhi.
In India Hindus are divided in many castes and as Muslim are a homogeneous group, they constitute majority in many areas. |
