Important Events of 20th Twentieth Century Islamic History

1912     Jang-e-Balqan disintegrates the
  Ottoman  Empire.



1924     Khilafat is Abolished.



1931     Maulana Mohd Ali who had vowed
               never to

        return to a ghulaam (slave) India  dies
        on 4th January.



1947     Hindustan is partitioned. Pakistan becomes an

        independent country.



1948     Israel occupies Palestine



1952     Libya becomes independent.



1955     Sudan independent



1956     Morocco independent



1957-58 Malaya, Tunisia, Guinea, Mauritainia, attain freedom.



1960-61 Cameroon, Chad, Cote D’ Ivory, Mali, Niger,

        Nigeria, Senegal, Togo, Upper Volta, Somalia, Kuwait

        and Sierra Leone become independent.



1962     Algeria gains freedom.



1963     Malaysia is formed.



1967     Arab-Israel war.



1969     Jews set fire to Masjid Aqsa and thus

        the first Islamic summit held at Rabat.

        Col. Muammar Qaddafi comes to power in Libya.



1970     Nasser dies , Anwar Saadat comes to power in Egypt.
